We live in an over-process world where 80% of what lines our grocery store shelves comes from a box or a can. Often times people turn to these “frankenfoods” because they give us the perception they are cheaper and save lots of time in the kitchen. But what are they really doing to our health? If the old saying rings true that “you are what you eat” then we, as a nation, are screwed. We have gotten so far away from the concept of real food that we are now sicker than ever despite all the money being thrown at research, pills and healthcare.

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is making us a country of fat, sick, exhausted, pill popping people. According to the CDC, 69% of the adult population are either overweight or obese today. Childhood obesity has more than doubled while adolescent obesity has more than quadrupled in the past 30 years. Heart disease, stroke, cancer and type 2 diabetes are some of the leading causes of preventable deaths. Contrary to what the medical community and our government might tell us, the answers to these problems are not found in another pill. Most of the answers, I believe, can be found in the power of REAL FOOD.

Real Food

Today, the definition of “real food” seems to have many different meanings and isn’t as clear and defined as it should be. There’s literally dozens of interpretations of what real food is and is not. So, here’s my definition: Real food is the way God originally intended it to be; flavorful, natural, living, unchanged and simply perfect.

Real Life

We are busy. Our schedules are filled with work, school, homework, shuffling kids to and from practice, doctor’s appointments and housework. Because we live life in fast forward we crave convenience. But that doesn’t have to mean our health should suffer because of it. Real life is about managing our busy schedules while keeping things simple enough to give ourselves and our families the very best.

Real Change

Sure, we all want to change. We want to read more, exercise more, throw away the cookies and take more time for ourselves. We want to take up a musical instrument and accomplish random acts of kindness. And yet, when we make these decisions we enthusiastically scribble them down on our calendar and declare we will start tomorrow. The next morning we wake up only to find an excuse to put it off. Real change is about following through to transform your life, your health and your mind through a lifestyle of becoming a real consumer.
